A visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel is not to be missed whilst

collections in the world. According to the ideals of Renaissance, Pope Julius II
began in 1506 to collect ancient works of art and thus gave birth to the Museums.
The collections of treasures from the Vatican State and gifts to the Popes are
completed by several unique works of art which have been created within and for
the Vatican Palace: the frescoes in the Sistine Chapel and Stanze di Raffaello
(Raphael’s rooms). The latter are the young Raphael’s masterpiece, created for
Pope Julius II, a great lover of the arts. In the Sistine Chapel, famous all over the
world for Michelangelo’s frescoes, the Cardinals meet for the selection of a new
Pope during the conclave. The tour ends in the Basilica of St. Peter’s.
